Other Notes of Interest:

  • Once an interest rate is established, it is locked in until the judgment is paid.  (i.e. a judgment entered in 2007 at 9.25% remains at that interest rate into 2008 even though the interest rate for this year's judgments has fallen to 7.75%)
  • AS 09.30.070(a) defines the interest rate as "three percentage points above the 12th Federal Reserve District discount rate in effect on January 2 of the year in which the judgment or decree is entered".
  • The interest rate for judgments where the cause of action accrued before August 7, 1997 is 10.5%.  for all dates on or following August 7, 1997, follow the rates as determined by AS 09.30.070(a).
